Soy candles are
made from soy wax, which is hydrogenated soybean oil. Soy wax was invented
in 1992 by Michael Richards who was looking for a cheaper alternative to
beeswax. As he entered the candle industry in 1991 he realized there was a
growing demand for natural wax candles. Soy wax is often mixed with
fragrances to produces scented soy candles. Soy candles are a new
alternative to paraffin wax because they are all-natural and do not
contain petroleum, last 50% longer than regular paraffin candles, if
spilled are easy to clean with hot soapy water, they produce less soot
(thus help to maintain air
quality), and scented soy candles distribute more scent - the
incorporation of soybean oil lowers the melting point of the candle, which
translates into cooler burning candles and faster scent dispersion.

Mission furniture is
a style that has evolved from the Arts & Crafts movement in early 1900’s
America and is often times interchanged with “Arts & Crafts” or
“Craftsman” furniture. Mission furniture is often commercially perceived as furniture that features “spindles”
or “slats” but there are also a number of other items that fall within
this category. The mission furniture form is typically rectilinear and lacking fancy decorative details. These
pieces are, however, very attractive, but that do rely heavily on the
natural beauty of the wood, construction details and trimmings for their
decoration.
