Mission Furniture
“Mission”
furniture is a style that has evolved from the Arts & Crafts movement in
early 1900’s America and is often times interchanged with “Arts &
Crafts” or “Craftsman” furniture.
Mission
is often commercially perceived as furniture that features “spindles” or
“slats” but there are also a number of other items that fall within this
category.
The
form is typically rectilinear and lacking fancy decorative details.
These pieces are however very attractive, but that they rely heavily on
the natural beauty of the wood, construction details and trimmings for their
decoration.
Reclaimed Wood
Our
Reclaimed Wood products are truly a unique collection that preserves and showcases wood that
has been reclaimed from buildings, which would otherwise fall victim to a
landfill or be burned. These
buildings often have significant historical value and are commonly over 100
years old. The posts, beams, framing and floors are turned into
beautiful furniture that tells a unique story.
The Reclaimed
Wood collection is rich in character and patina.
Care is taken not to eliminate past remnants of the history of the
structure from which it came. Some
of the features include mortise and chisel marks, screw or nail discoloration,
post beetle trails, wormholes and pegs from timber frame construction.
Arts & Crafts
"Arts
& Crafts" is a very general term for a style made popular in
early 1900's America.
We too use it as a general category for products fashioned after those of
that period.
These
pieces are typically simple in appearance yet showcase the beauty of the
wood as well as serve as a functional piece of furniture. Some of the
characteristics of these pieces include mortise & tenon
joinery, decorative cutouts, through tenons,
keyed tenons, iron trim & exposed
fasteners.
